Welcome letter
August 16, 2023
Dear parent or guardian:
Welcome to Cougar Country! I am your child’s Medical Technologies and/or Emergency Medical Response instructor. These will be exciting and informative classes and I look forward to working closely with you to ensure a successful year in the classroom for your child. These classes will give students the opportunity to explore the myriad of health career options available to them and will give them a firm foundation in entry-level health education. In addition, students will be exposed to different professions through field trips and guest speakers. In the Spring, students will learn resumé, application, and job finding skills and will be able to put these together for the district-wide mock interviews, conducted by industry professionals. Also in the Spring, Medical Technologies students will participate in externships at a medical facility (hospital, dentist’s office, clinic, etc.) three days per week; a portion of the externship will involve hands-on, direct patient care.
Please review the attached “Classroom Syllabus and Grading Policy” and the “Classroom Rules and Expectations”. This document will explain what your child will learn in the classroom and what is expected of him or her. It is the instructor’s right to make changes in the schedule, policies, and activities as needed during the semester. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you,
Mr. Fragasso

Make-up work:
If you are absent for any reason, it is your responsibility to check the course calendar and/or the website (fragasso.weebly.com), and pick up or write down the missing assignments. Please do this during an appropriate time during the period. Tests, quizzes, and make-up work are to be completed the day you return to class or by special arrangement. Class work, homework, projects, and assignments that are turned in late without a valid excuse will only receive up to 50% of the original point value. Test make-ups will be essay and short answer.
Homework:
Students should study and review material every evening for a minimum of 15 minutes for optimal success; do not get behind as there is a great deal of material in this class. Specific homework assignments will be given weekly. Extra credit assignments may be given from time to time, as well, for those students who need to give their grades a boost.

Classroom rules and expectations
- To avoid a tardy, you are expected to be in your assigned seat when the final bell rings; the tardy policy will be strictly enforced (see agenda).
- Respect my property, classroom furnishings / equipment, and the property of others by not touching anything that is not yours, without asking first.
- Be considerate and courteous in everything you do. Show respect and you will be respected. Look and act professional.
- Food, drinks, and gum are ok if you keep your desk and work area clean. Gel in and gel out when entering and exiting the lab. Don’t abuse this privilege.
- Obtain a pass from the instructor if you need to leave the classroom for any reason.
- Be prepared for class every day: laptop, book, binder, agenda, pen, pencil, homework, etc.
- Cheating or copying will not be tolerated. Keep your paper covered and your eyes on your own work. Students caught cheating or copying will receive “zero” points on the assignment and will be referred to the appropriate administrator.
- All personal items (sunglasses, makeup, magazines, pictures, cell phones, etc.) must be put away when class begins or student will be given a referral following established school policies.
- In accordance with school policy, if you are absent from class and your name is not on the daily absence list, you must clear your absence with the attendance office.
- All school rules will be followed and enforced. Detention and referrals to the vice principal’s office will be given if needed.
- Tardies, absences, poor behavior, being unprepared for class, and failure to stay on task during the period will result in a Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory grade. The district rubric will be used and daily behavior will be documented. Cooperative and hardworking students will receive an Outstanding or Satisfactory grade (tardy = -5 points, lack of participation = -10 points, unexcused absence = -20 points).
